122 Households Involved In TM High Speed Broadband Trials

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia (TM) Bhd is on track for the commercial and retail availability of its High Speed Broadband (HSBB) services in Bangsar, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam at the end of the first quarter next year.

TM said 122 households in Bangsar, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam are currently involved in the HSBB retail service trial as part of its progressive plan to roll out its commercial HSBB services in the four initial roll-out areas.

By year-end, TM expects to complete 100 per cent physical upgrade work in the four exchanges, it said in a statement.

Currently, physical fibre access work in 44 exchanges out of 95 earmarked for HSBB network roll-out nationwide is on-going.

Todate, TM has a "premises passed" achievement of 143,000, with a target completion of 150,000 premises passed by year-end.

The user trial will give TM an opportunity to test out its systems, processes, fibre installation methodology, with an eye towards providing an enhanced customer service experience when commercial service is offered.

These "beta testers" are experiencing and enjoying network access speeds of 15Mbps along with the related triple-play services of Voice, Video and High Speed Internet which will eventually make up the complete HSBB commercial retail package to be announced by TM nearer to the launch date, it said.

TM said by the end of 2012 -- in accordance with the completion of the first phase of the national HSBB project roll-out as agreed with the Government -- about 1.3 million premises nationwide will have access to HSBB services.

"Given the pioneering nature of our last-mile fibre installation in Malaysia and the sensitive nature of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) installation which requires a high-degree of accuracy, the expected on-premise installation time will be about six to eight hours as it will involve site survey, drilling, ducting, piping, some electrical work and finally equipment reconfiguration, said Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, TM Group CEO.

"This is typical of the experience of many telcos around the world which have engaged in FTTH deployment," he said.

On the pricing for the services, Zamzamzairani assured interested early adopters out there that TM's upcoming HSBB retail packages would be attractive in terms of both value and pricing.

"After all, we want to draw in as many early adopters in the four initial roll-out areas as we can; and we hope their positive experience will be an endorsement for the rest of the country when HSBB comes to their doorstep," he said.

TM had recently completed two pilot consumer studies to determine the best composition and pricing options for proposed HSBB retail packages which would comprise basic and add-on services.

Thus far, TM's capital expenditure spent from fourth quarter of 2008 till Oct 30, 2009 was RM1.4 billion covering last mile access, Internet Protocol core deployment and capacity expansion for international links.

TM had received government reimbursement for this which is in line with the stated commitments under the PPP Agreement.

HSBB promises faster network access speed (port speed) in excess of the current fastest available Broadband for the General Public (BBGP) speeds of 4Mbps offered by TM's existing Streamyx service.

HSBB also targets superior end-to-end network performance, including international bandwidth, given TM's investment in international submarine linkages, including the recently-activated Asia-America Gateway, which went live on Nov 10.

Not angry, nor mad. Maybe a tiny bit disappointed. Just speck sized, mind you.
(No, I'm not writing about myself. Nothing to do with work / immediate friends. So jangan melatah and cepat terasa.)

I find it trivial how the community at large could only remember you for your misdeeds, and not what you're good at. Fine. Granted. It happens to everyone, everywhere. But can't the society just let go? Reminders, be it constant or sporadic, does get to you no matter how hard you try to ignore it.

Riley Poole: Look at it this way - in a hundred years, no one is gonna remember anyone involved in the Lincoln assassination besides Booth.

Ben Gates: That's not true. Do you know the expression "His name is mud?"

Riley Poole: Yes, of course.

Ben Gates: You do? Do you know the origin of the expression?

Riley Poole: Does anyone but you?

Ben Gates: Dr. Samuel Mudd was convicted of being a co-conspirator in the Lincoln assassination. The evidence was circumstantial, he was later pardoned, but it didn't matter. Mudd's name still lives in infamy, and I will not let Thomas Gates' name be mud.

Script from "National Treasure: Book of Secrets"

Give it time, some might say. But from the movie dialogue excerpt above, I don't think time has got anything to do with it. It's already set in stone.

For now, I'll just blame it on the "dengki sampai mati" doctrine (pinjam frasa from Santau.) which is unique to a certain Asian race.

Hmm, sudah-sudah la ok? Cukup dengan reminders. Let that individual move on and make peace with the Higher power.

I really think 'hard news' people should apply what they do at work to their daily lives too - no crap, just facts. If it ain't confirmed, shut up, research.
